Saponification no. (mg KOH/g): 110 – 140

Applications:

When saponified with sodium, potassium, barium or lithium hydroxides to yield the corresponding metal terephthalamate, Pentamid KH will gel a wide variety of organic liquids at much lower levels than conventional soaps. Hydrocarbon, polyether and polysiloxane oils can be gelled by direct saponification of Pentamid KH in the oil. The metal soap of Pentamid KH should be prepared separately before addition to grease formulations containing saponifiable groups such as phosphates or carboxylic acid esters. Some of the advantages achieved by using saponified Pentamid KH instead of conventional soaps in grease formulations are listed below:

  • greatly improved temperature stability
  • better gel stability
  • enhanced water resistance
  • good pumpability
  • better bearing performance
  • good compatability with other greases
  • improved resistance to oxidation
  • excellent appearance and texture
  • economy
